Introduction

Huge numbers of organizations are dedicated to development. For instance, Governments are eager to reach their Millennium Development Goals by the year 2015. Countless research institutes evaluate different methods. Thousands of organizations (local, national and international NGOs, Government and UN Agencies) are dedicated to development. And yet these are not coordinating their efforts. Many are not even aware of others’activities and needs.

Global development for all requires that creators and evaluators of funding approaches, activists and Governments form global partnerships and that these are fuelled by world public opinion. This web site provides the necessary tools to enable partnerships to form.

The All-Win Principle –a Powerful Tool
The All-Win Principle states:

  1. All have the right to develop in their own chosen ways, as long as they do not  harm others or the environment;
  2. Partnerships which explicitly honour the right to determination of all without harming others or the environment will tend to be durable and form a sound foundation for a global community that works well for all.

When designing partnerships for common action, it is therefore useful, at every phase of collaboration to check that the needs and concerns of all participating parties are taken into account and that neither people nor the environment are harmed.

Our Objectives

To create partnerships between

To make tools and know-how available
  1. Methods to fund development are made available to all for personal, community, and national development and for the development of an (all-win) global community—one  that works well for all ; as well as
  2. The knowhow of how to implement it to best suit individual, community, national and global needs. We believe that both physical and spiritual/psychological development are needed to help solve the global problems which threaten the well-being and security of us all.

Action Steps

Step One: Development of the International Coordination Group

After the meeting of Heads of State and Ministers at the UN to discuss decent employment for all in July 2006, a growing group of activists and relevant NGOs has been forming to make development for all a reality by making tools available and to foster a global movement for development for all.

Action steps outlined include:

  1. Help to make the grass roots worldwide aware of what all-win development can mean to individuals personally and to their communities;
  2. With the help of a network of national and local groups deepen the general understanding of how devlopment can be funded and implemented to meet the needs of diverse communities without harming others or the environment;
  3. Help to found and support a global network of think tanks that can help communities and governments deal with obstacles they encounter as they attempt to implement development for all; and
  4. Coordinate an international lobby of the UN.

As first steps, the initiators

1. Maintain this web site as a resource and as a forum for discussions and planning.
The contents of this web site can be printed out at any time to form a Handbook to Fund and Implement Development.

2. Send out regular mailings to encourage

  1. People to participate in the actions via the web site; and
  2. Create local and national activities.

Step Two: National Coordination Groups

National Groups’ objective is to find methods for funding and implementing development in their own countries and local communities, using their own resources and specialised know-how, as well as any resources provided by this web site; co-ordinate local and national activities; and support and be supported by efforts in other countries as well as those organised at the UN.

 Step Three: Local, National, and International Think Tanks

Their objective is to:

Step Four: An International Think Tank as a Tool to Help Build a Sustainable Global Community Based on Development for All.

This International Think Tank would have the following tasks:

Toward a Global Community that Works Well for All

Development for all is a huge project. It will gradually unfold, beginning with those who are involved now:

The International Co-ordination Group’s efforts gets others involved so that other international organisations and networks and interested individuals take up the idea and develop it in their own ways.

The expected outcome:

Activities will expand at the national and local levels (often via the national branches of organisations) to form the national co-ordination groups.

The expected outcome:
These will

An International Think Tank will form to choose combinations of suitable methods to implement development for all as a means to forming a global community that works well for all.
This group will be able to make use of diverse conferencing methods to develop a step by step plan and circulate this among as many people as possible.

Expected outcome: there will be

  1. A broad interest in development for all and a global community that works well for all (after all, it is based on very broad input);
  2. A significant constituency for all governments who wish to act upon it;
  3. A network of informed think tanks
  4. A strong support for national lobbies and for a global lobby at the UN.

The Role of Governments and the UN will increase as the international and national lobbies expand. These can take the following steps:

  1. Create a panel of experts in the UN Secretariat (including experts from UNDP and other Development Agencies of the UN System and its Specialized Agencies) to study and possibly adjust the methods chosen by the people for funding and implementing development for all as a foundation for a global community that works well for all.
  2. Plan and implement steps for the implementation in partnership with those who are involved world-wide and with the UN Agencies already involved in development.

The elements of an all-win global community are for a part already in place and can be adjusted as people actively support the initiative.
